Current figure: Forbes puts Anatoly Sedykh’s net worth at $3 billion as of 8 August 2026 (Forbes profile). Estimates are revised continuously and Forbes and Bloomberg frequently disagree.
Anatoly Sedykh is the principal owner and board chairman of United Metallurgical Company (OMK), which Forbes describes as Russia’s second-largest pipe producer and its biggest maker of railway wheels. He built the group around the Vyksa steel works in the Nizhny Novgorod region, which he and his partners took control of by 1999. The United Kingdom sanctioned him in February 2024. The United States and the United Kingdom have also sanctioned OMK itself.

- Known for: principal owner and chairman of the board of directors of OMK

Career
Sedykh graduated from the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys in 1987 as an engineer-economist (51.ru, Forbes). He started as an economist at the Central Research Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy. In 1989 he and partners set up a scrap-metal processing business near Moscow (Vedomosti, Forbes). In 1993 he and his partners founded Metallinvestbank, whose management board he chaired until 1999, and bought shares in steel plants, including Vyksa (Novy Kompanyon, Vedomosti).
United Metallurgical Company (OMK)
OMK was registered on 23 November 1992 (company register via Rusprofile, OFAC SDN list). By 1999 Sedykh and his partners had gained control of the Vyksa Metallurgical Plant, which became the core of the group, and Sedykh took over the plant’s management that year (Forbes, Novy Kompanyon). He was elected chairman of OMK’s board of directors in 2002 and was the company’s president from 2003 to 2006. In 2013 he became chairman of the management board (Rusmet). In 2017 he became chairman of the board of directors again and has since concentrated on strategy (Vedomosti). Kommersant and Vedomosti describe him as OMK’s principal owner (Kommersant, 2020, Vedomosti, 2024).
At Vyksa the group operates a casting and rolling complex built in 2008 (Kommersant). In 2020 Kommersant reported that Sedykh would be the main investor in Ecolant, a new electric steel complex in Vyksa (Kommersant).
OMK was a supplier to Gazprom’s export pipelines, not the owner of any of them. In January 2014 the project company South Stream Transport chose Severstal, OMK and Europipe to supply pipes for the offshore section of the South Stream pipeline, and OMK announced that it would deliver 300 km of pipes (Vedomosti). According to Forbes Russia, OMK was the only Russian company that supplied pipes for Nord Stream 1, Nord Stream 2 and South Stream (Forbes Russia).

OMK itself was sanctioned by the United Kingdom on 18 May 2023 (UK sanctions list) and by the United States on 14 September 2023 (US Treasury). Ukraine has also sanctioned Sedykh: the annex to Presidential Decree No. 727/2022 of 19 October 2022 lists him with his date of birth and sets the measures, including the blocking of assets, for ten years. It gives no reasons (Decree No. 727/2022).
OMK-Uchastie foundation
In 2008 Sedykh and his wife Irina founded the charity OMK-Uchastie, which supports children with disabilities and cultural projects (51.ru, Expert).
About this profile
This profile was rewritten in October 2026. An earlier version from 2022 relied on a yacht fan website. It described South Stream as an OMK project, gave him a title he does not hold and included private details and a profit figure for which we found no reliable source. These statements have been removed. Sources differ on his exact date of birth (27 or 28 November 1964). The net worth figure in the box at the top of this page comes from Forbes and carries its date.
