Russian Oligarchs In California

In San Diego, A $300 million superyacht that the United States allegedly seized from a purported Russian oligarch in Fiji last month arrived in San Diego Bay on Monday.

It is 348 feet long, called the Amadea, and has a helipad and a swimming pool. According to the Department of Justice, Suleiman Kerimov, a gold investor with a net worth of $14.5 billion, owns it.

The length of time the seized boat will remain in San Diego is unknown. It will eventually be sold off, according to justice department officials.

The global effort to enforce U.S sanctions against Russia for their unprovoked and unjustified war in Ukraine was an unprecedented victory thanks largely due an exceptional partnership between the United States government as well other governments around the world who collaborated on this major investigation- transports/seizures could not have happened without all these partners involved!

In 2018, the U.S. imposed sanctions on Kerimov, who was charged with money laundering in connection with the acquisition of French properties. He received a warning from the European Union in March 2022, according to the Associated Press.

Task Force KleptoCapture was established by the Department of Justice in the same month to carry out the sanctions that the United States and its allies abroad enacted after Russia invaded Ukraine.

The Amadea was captured in Fiji two months later, on May 5, according to a statement from the Department of Justice. On that occasion, Attorney General Merrick Garland declared that “today’s action should make clear that there is no hiding spot for the assets of persons who violate U.S. law.”

The U.S. sailed the ship from the South Pacific island of Fiji on June 7 after successfully resolving a legal dispute regarding the yacht’s true owner.

Prior to arriving in San Diego last week, the superyacht made a stop in Hawaii. On the route to its berth on Monday, the boat passed beneath the San Diego-Coronado Bridge.
